adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt Sherlock! adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this cat! Sherlock has found his home! His story: Sherlock carries a story that touches. About two years ago, he was found on the street in a shocking state in the summer. His body was marked by parasites, fleas, and ear mites. Around his neck, back, and ears, he had open, bleeding wounds. It was clear: Without help, he would not have had a chance. He was immediately taken off the street and treated by a veterinarian. The road back to life was long and demanding. Many treatments, medical baths, and endless patience were needed until Sherlock finally healed. Today, hardly anything remains of this difficult start. From the injured tomcat, a well-groomed, clean, and beautiful boy has become, who accepts his second chance quietly and gratefully. Sherlock is a quiet, gentle character. In an environment with many cats, he shows himself initially reserved, which is probably due to the unrest. In a quiet home, he can flourish. He loves relaxed moments, proximity at his own pace, and especially good food. Small rituals and reliability give him security. With other cats, Sherlock is compatible, so he will not be rehomed in single-cat housing. He can come to an existing cat or he brings someone from his foster home with him. So far, there are no experiences with dogs. A walk is not planned for him. In a safe apartment, he feels most comfortable. A cat-safe netted balcony, from which he can observe his surroundings, would be a nice extra for him. For his travel arrangements, Sherlock is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings his EU pet passport of course. He is tested negative for FIV and FeLV. After a positive test. Also, a foster home would be a gentle start into a new chapter for him. Who adopts Sherlock, gives a quiet, gentle tomcat finally the arrival that he so long lacked – and wins a loyal companion with a particularly big heart. Heartfelt thanks to the patrons Claudia and Jörg B.

About Sherlock

What life with Sherlock looks like

Sherlock is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherlock, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherlock?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherlock on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherlock if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherlock already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherlock isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherlock and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
