Shirley

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Senior · 17 years

Shirley is a 17-year-old European domestic cat, white with a tiger-striped pattern. She is female, spayed, and her reason for relinquishment is due to changed living circumstances, a household cat allergy, and increased care needs in her senior years. Shirley is a gentle soul who needs time to warm up to new people. Once she trusts you, she is incredibly sweet. She enjoys being petted on her belly, likes cuddling on the couch, and relaxes when her fur is brushed. Shirley was an outdoor cat for many years and loved life outside. She has lived indoors for about three years due to her current living situation. A quiet place with safe outdoor access would be ideal. However, what's most important is lots of human companionship, peace, and understanding of her senior needs. Shirley recently underwent a thorough veterinary examination. Her complete blood count, including thyroid levels, was normal. She was found to have high blood pressure, which is currently being treated with Amodip and monitored by a vet. There is also a suspicion of age-related cognitive changes. Shirley often becomes restless at night and can meow intensely for extended periods. Her grooming and litter box habits have also declined with age. I want to be upfront about these issues so that Shirley goes to people who are aware of her special needs. Unfortunately, due to a cat allergy in our household, we can no longer provide her with the care she needs. I hope Shirley finds a quiet, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years. About Shirley

What life with Shirley looks like

Shirley is a small senior mixed breed cat cat waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shirley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shirley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shirley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shirley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Shirley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shirley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shirley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
