All cats Shirly Print Published: March 18, 2026 Breed: DSH Age: approx. 2016 Gender: female neutered: yes Color: red-gray tabby white husbandry: Free-roaming We took Shirly from our partner organization, Tierhilfe Hoffnung. She is one of 23 cats that lived together with 114 dogs on a farm and were secured by the animal protection police. One of our older residents is a real sweetheart. Shirly is cautious around humans, but once she trusts you, she loves to receive cuddles. For her, we wish a quiet home, preferably with older people. She gets along very well with her fellow animals and tends to avoid conflict. It would be nice if a kind and social fellow animal could welcome her in her new home, as she really enjoys the company of other cats. After the acclimatization period and building trust, she should be given the opportunity for free-roaming in a traffic-calmed residential area. Would you like to meet Shirly? For more information and/or to arrange a visit (or contact the foster home), please call the animal shelter. It is best to call in the morning between 9:00 and 12:00, and then again between 14:00 and 16:00. Please understand if someone does not answer immediately, as our office is not always occupied and the staff are usually busy with animal care. So, please do not give up and try several times.

About Shirly

What life with Shirly looks like

Shirly is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shirly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shirly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shirly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shirly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shirly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shirly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shirly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
