All cats Luigi Print Published: March 18, 2026 Breed: EKH Age: around 2017 (actually much younger) Gender: male neutered: yes Color: gray tabby white husbandry: free-roaming We took in Luigi from our partner organization, Tierhilfe Hoffnung. He is one of 23 cats that lived on a farm with 114 dogs and were secured by the animal protection police. The large, stately tomcat is a really nice guy and loves to be stroked. He wouldn't mind moving into a home as an only prince. Otherwise, he gets along very well with friendly, social fellow animals. With him, you will have a lot of joy. He also exudes a calmness in his manner that is really pleasant. Then he has his wild 5 minutes. He wants to play, roughhouse, and explore. In our free-range area, he sometimes doesn't know what to do with his energy. Sometimes to the detriment of "weaker" ones, because when he is really bored and cannot use up his energy like on a free range, then he chooses victims to annoy. The new home should give him the opportunity for free-roaming, after the acclimatization period in a quiet residential area, again. Would you like to meet Luigi? For more information and/or to arrange a visit (or contact with the foster home), please call the animal shelter at the number provided. It would be best to call in the morning between 9:00 and 12:00 and then again between 14:00 and 16:00. Please understand if someone does not answer immediately, as our office is not always occupied and the staff are usually involved in animal care. So, please do not give up and try several times.

About Luigi

What life with Luigi looks like

Luigi is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luigi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luigi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luigi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luigi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luigi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luigi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luigi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
