adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this dog now! Shy has barely had the chance to experience any form of care in her life. The approximately 1-year-old female dog lived with her puppies in a poor family that unfortunately barely took care of their dogs. She was tied to a chain, with insufficient food, and often even without water, surviving on a piece of land where she had only a small shelter for protection from wind and weather. When our team member Anca stumbled upon the family in a neighboring town, she was met with a shocking sight. Shy and her now grown puppies were severely underweight and dehydrated. Shy’s long white-gray fur was full of dirt, lice, and tangles – a clear sign that no one had ever taken care of her fur. Anca initially tried to help the family. She brought food and water bowls to ensure the dogs at least had some sustenance. However, her efforts were in vain: the food was sold, and the dogs remained hungry and without adequate care. Eventually, Anca managed to convince the family to let her take at least Shy and one of her puppies. The two were in particularly bad condition and desperately needed help. Today, they live on a company premises with other rescued dogs and can finally feel safe. Anca is already working on taking in the other dogs as well. Despite everything Shy has experienced, she has retained her joy in life. The approximately 55–60 cm tall female dog is anything but reserved with people. On the contrary, she is overjoyed by any form of attention and sometimes gets so excited that she practically throws herself into someone’s arms. She is still a bit boisterous and needs to learn to better regulate her enthusiasm, but always in a loving and friendly way. She also shows social and friendly behavior towards other dogs. She greets her fellow animals with a bit of storm and intrusiveness, but she never means any harm and simply enjoys every company. From her appearance and looks, we suspect that Shy has herding dog genes. Her future family should therefore familiarize themselves with the special characteristics of these dogs and be happy to lovingly and consistently accompany her through life. For Shy, we wish for an active family that can give her the attention she has longed for. People who can show her that she will never again go hungry, be cold, or have to fight for affection. Shy has so much love to give – she just needs a family that finally lets her arrive. Thank you to Monika V. for Shy's identification. Thanks to you, Shy can now begin her search for a home. As of 06.06. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Lieben Dank an Monika V.. Stand: 28.09.2026

About Shy

What life with Shy looks like

Shy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
