Simba

Male Β· Senior Β· 13 years

Shih-tzu, Age: 26-10-2013 Other characteristics: Eye ointment 6 times a day, heart medication Can with other dogs: yes, a calmer dog Can with cats: yes Can in an apartment: no, house with a garden Can with children: yes, 12+ He came to us as temporary foster care. His female companion was hospitalized and would not be able to return home for a long time. There was no one else for him. A dog who had already received far too little care. His eyesight was very poor, he sees and hears less well and also medically he needs extra attention. So he became our office manager. But then you discover who he really is. An incredibly sweet senior who really blooms from people. Give him a toy and his tail starts to wag. He grabs it, throws it and even looks for it again. He jumps into the chair himself, comes to ask for attention and enjoys every bit of love visibly. His future requires care. His eyes need to be treated several times a day and his heart needs to be monitored. He easily allows his eyes to be treated. The biggest challenge is still to give him his heart medication, because this clever man does not always want to eat the pate because a pill can be hidden in it. Who thinks that this senior is also a real senior, is wrong. He makes it very clear that he wants to be with you and his vocal cords are well trained! But what he gives back is priceless. He does not ask for a perfect life. He only asks for someone who will not leave him this time. Who gives this sweet old soul his golden nest where he may have been waiting for all this time?

About Simba

What life with Simba looks like

Simba is a senior dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺAdopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Simba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
