Simon

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Important! Please apply to adopt only if you’re committed for life and are a responsible pet owner for whom the dog is not just a garden ornament but a member of the family. You agree that, in the event of a move—whether abroad, from a yard to an apartment, or to another rental property—you’ll take your dog/cat with you as you would any other family member and ensure that, should anything happen to you, they’ll still have a secure home. -------------------------------------ENGLISH VERSION BELOW------------------------------------------- Simon is one of our most overlooked dogs, and despite years of waiting, no one has ever shown interest in him. His body is covered in many old wounds, and the stress of long-term confinement and loneliness has led him to chew and lick his legs as a way of coping. His immune system has also been severely weakened by stress. Even so, Simon is a kind-hearted, gentle, intelligent, and loyal dog. He is friendly with people, but not a typical lap dog. He is smart and highly food-motivated, which makes training possible and rewarding. He especially enjoys toys, particularly sticks, and playing helps him briefly break out of his kennel-related frustration. He doesn’t react to other dogs on leash, but we would still recommend him as an only dog. He is not suitable for families with children. Simon would be incredibly grateful to finally leave the shelter and, with a patient owner by his side, rebuild the trust he has lost over the years.

Fontos! -------------------------------------ENGLISH VERSION BELOW------------------------------------------- Simon is one of our most overlooked dogs, and despite years of waiting, no one has ever shown interest in him. About Simon

What life with Simon looks like

Simon is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Rex Kutyaotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Behavioral rehabilitation needed due to confinement stress

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rex Kutyaotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rex Kutyaotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Simon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rex Kutyaotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
