adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Sirius has found a home! His story: Sirius – not to be confused with the wizard from Harry Potter 😉 – was adopted by a family who fell in love with two fluffy puppies. However, the two were bought from an illegal breeder – in the belief of getting purebred Bichons. Unfortunately, what followed is a sad classic: From cute puppies, they grew into teenage dogs with their own heads, energy, and character. Suddenly, it no longer fit. When it became clear that Sirius and Bifi are just normal, charming mixed-breed dogs – charming street dogs with heart and fur – they should be quickly gotten rid of. Luckily, our animal rescuer Anahita was there and could take the two brothers in on time. Now, Sirius lives with her in safety, together with other dogs – and enchants all two- and four-legged beings with his gentle, cheerful nature. Sirius is friendly, open, and social – gets along well with fellow animals and also knows cats. Whether he has lived with them permanently, we don't know for sure, but the past encounters have been problem-free. Children are also not strangers to him. So he is a bit more experienced and ready to start his real forever home. With his shoulder height of about 39–40 cm and a weight of around 10–11 kg, Sirius belongs to the smaller dogs – compact, handy, and with a look that hits right to the heart. His fur is fluffy, his expression curious and gentle – a little magic dog who finally wants to arrive. Sirius brings a lot to his young age: He is open to new things, curious about the world, and looks forward to a home where he can be shown how wonderful life as a family dog can be. Of course, he still has a lot to learn – leash training, house training, being alone, and the whole dog 1×1 –, but with patience, love, and a portion of humor, he will surely settle in quickly. Currently, he is probably in the middle of puberty – that wonderful phase where boundaries are tested, rules are questioned, and already learned things are sometimes forgotten. Whoever Sirius accompanies lovingly and consistently during this time, offers clear structures, and guides him through this development with positive reinforcement, will be rewarded with a great, loyal companion. A visit to a positively working dog training class would be a great opportunity for Sirius to grow together with his new humans, build trust, and learn playfully. Sirius is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas – of course, he also brings his EU pet passport.

About Sirius

What life with Sirius looks like

Sirius is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sirius, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sirius?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sirius on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sirius if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sirius already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sirius isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sirius and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
