Skadi

Podenco · Female · Puppy

Skadi ID No.: 1049480 Breed: Podenco Andaluz Age: approx. 10/2024 Gender: female Shoulder height: approx. 48 cm Neutered/Spayed: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Skadi (*10/2024, approx. 48 cm) is an age-appropriately active and sociable, yet shy-around-humans female Podenco dog who arrived at our Spanish partner shelter, Triple A Marbella, in February 2026. Skadi had no identification microchip; as the Spanish hunting season had just ended, we strongly suspect she was simply discarded by a hunter. One of our volunteers found the sweet female dog and brought her to the animal shelter. Initially, Skadi was still very timid and avoided human contact. By now, she already feels much more comfortable around us, although she is not quite the cuddly lapdog yet. She still approaches our volunteer walkers and caretakers cautiously and keeps a bit of distance. However, she is slowly making progress and has already been able to go on her first outing. She walks wonderfully on-leash and enjoys shared adventures in nature—especially when she has a canine friend by her side. At the animal shelter, she lives harmoniously in a small mixed group of dogs. Together with her friend “Maus,” she loves exploring tall grass. As soon as they’re in the enclosed off-leash area, the two disappear into the bushes, and you only catch glimpses of their wagging tails sticking out. Skadi absolutely needs one or more confident adult dogs in her new home to give her security and guide her into her new life. She is a typical Podenco with a strong interest in mice, birds, and butterflies. A home experienced with dogs—and ideally already familiar with Podencos—would be absolutely perfect for her. Prey-drive substitution training and mental stimulation should be just as standard in her new home as daily physical activity. We are looking for patient, active people who will let Skadi settle in calmly and give her all the time she needs. At least one fellow animal should live in her new home for her to look up to. Additionally, a securely fenced garden would be desirable. Whether she could get along with cats can be tested upon request, though this naturally also depends greatly on the individual cat and the guidance provided by the humans. Skadi is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. For travel arrangements, she will be tested for Mediterranean diseases and treated for worms and fleas. Vaccinations: Yes Mediterranean check: Yes Microchip: Yes Leash-aggressive: No Transport included Contact person: Ruth Bachhausen Tel: Email:.

About Skadi

What life with Skadi looks like

Skadi is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skadi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skadi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skadi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skadi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Skadi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skadi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skadi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
