Adopt Sky

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Perhaps you still remember Helly, who arrived as a surprise package with Pohlmann's foundlings in Germany. No one knew that the small female dog was pregnant – and shortly after, she gave birth to her puppies at our shelter. Fortunately, all the puppies found loving homes quickly. But sometimes life takes unexpected turns. One of her puppies, Sky, has now returned to us nine months later. During his castration, Sky did not tolerate the anesthesia well, and his kidneys were significantly stressed and damaged. We acted immediately and took him to the animal clinic in Duisburg, where he was hospitalized for three weeks. Unfortunately, Sky's kidney values are not fully within the normal range and are unlikely to normalize. Nevertheless, the young male dog is otherwise in very good condition. Now we hope for a small miracle. We wish for the almost impossible to become possible: Sky is urgently in need of his own home or a permanent foster placement. For Sky, we are looking for a quiet, manageable home with dog-experienced people who can offer him security, structure, and understanding. In hectic or stressful situations, he clearly shows when something is too much for him, for example, through growling. And unfortunately, a bite incident has already occurred. Therefore, we wish for people who can recognize and respect his body language and signals, who can give him clear orientation, and who are willing to accompany him with patience and empathy. Sky is intelligent, active, and needs a lot of movement and mental stimulation. He wants to be occupied and needs people who enjoy working with him, who consistently but fairly lead him, and who give him the time to build trust. We are not looking for beginners for Sky, but for people with dog experience who understand his needs and give him the chance to find his place in a suitable environment. With patience, understanding, and the right support, he can develop into a loyal companion. With a confident female dog, Sky would likely get along well. However, he tends to be possessive about food, so responsible handling is important. He enjoys driving – he loves being on the go and is enthusiastic about it. Anyone who wants to meet Sky and give him the chance to find a suitable home is welcome to contact us here.

About Sky

What life with Sky looks like

Sky is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Arche Noah Tierschutz Westerwald e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arche Noah Tierschutz Westerwald e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arche Noah Tierschutz Westerwald e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arche Noah Tierschutz Westerwald e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
