Sljepko

Male

Currently housed at the animal shelter Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sljepko was found abandoned and completely blind with deformed eyes near a busy road far from civilization. It is unknown how long he wandered aimlessly and sightless until he was brought to the city animal shelter in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina). In the spring of 2023, both of his eyes had to be removed due to glaucoma in the left eye that had already spread to the right eye. Despite his blindness, he is cautious around people but friendly and people-oriented after getting to know them. Sljepko is an alert, inquisitive dog who, despite his blindness, is fit and vital, exploring his surroundings with his nose. Now, finally pain-free, he lives life with great enthusiasm and energy. His size and weight make him a small powerhouse that requires an experienced and resolute handler until he learns leash skills. When it comes to food, Sljepko’s time on the street is evident. In a split second, everything edible is consumed and defended against others. In a multi-dog facility, it is important to feed the dogs separately. In the environment of the animal shelter with the enormous noise level from over 100 barking dogs, he is visibly stressed and would like to finally find peace in his new home. Another dog in the household could help with his adjustment and orientation. Further details: Cat compatibility: unknown Weight: 31.5 kg The charming male dog would be very happy with his own dog bed. If you have fallen in love with our Sljepko and would like to give him a home, whether temporarily in a foster home, we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

About Sljepko

What life with Sljepko looks like

Sljepko is a adult dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sljepko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sljepko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sljepko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sljepko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sljepko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sljepko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sljepko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
