Smocky is a magnificent 4-year-old German Shepherd, large in size and just as big in heart ❤️ He is very friendly and full of great qualities, he just wants to discover more of the world around him and share beautiful moments with his future family. A companion with a nice potential to build a beautiful story together, three... or more 🐾 💬 What you need to know about him Smocky is a very nice and curious dog. Having had little contact with the outside world so far, he may still lack some experience on walks and tend to pull on the leash, mainly because everything is a source of curiosity for him. With patience, kindness and appropriate guidance, he will be able to gradually gain confidence and learn to fully enjoy his outings. 🏡 His ideal home Smocky will need a family ready to accompany him in his discoveries and to quietly continue his learning of life outside. Available, patient and kind adopters who will want to show him new things at his own pace can help him gain confidence and reveal his full potential. He will thus be able to build the foundations of a very beautiful family life ❤️ ❤️ To remember Smocky is a large 4-year-old German Shepherd, very nice, curious and full of potential. He just needs a little time and guidance to better understand the outside world and learn to manage his enthusiasm on walks. With the right family by his side, no doubt he will become a wonderful companion 🥰

About Smocky

What life with Smocky looks like

Smocky is a young adult german shepherd dog waiting at SPA Saint-Étienne Loire in Saint-Étienne.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Saint-Étienne Loire handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Saint-Étienne Loire will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Saint-Étienne Loire early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
