Adopt Smudge

Jack Russell Terrier · Female · Young · 2 years

Smudge and Bear are a gorgeous duo, who would prefer their new family to be home the majority of the time while they settle in. They travel well in the car and walk well on the lead, so would be looking for nice sniffy potters around! They would love a private garden to explore in and zoom around in while they build their confidence! They are not currently house-trained, but are foodie so with a routine and positive reinforcement, they are sure to pick this up very quickly! Smudge and Bear are looking for a home that can offer lots of soft, snuggly blankets to curl up in and patient, gentle owners that are willing to give them some time to blossom. Meet this beautiful duo, Smudge and Bear! Smudge and Bear are two 2-year old Jack Russell's looking for their forever home together. Smudge and Bear can be a bit timid initially, but soon potter over for a sit in your lap and a small fuss. This gorgeous pair are looking to be the only dogs in the home, with all children 11yrs+ and sensible. They are often found snuggling in their comfy bed together, and rely on eachother for confidence. They like to explore new places and get all the sniffs in, and are also building their confidence being walked on lead. They are looking for a quieter home where they can build their confidence together at their own pace. Smudge loves a good zoom around our paddocks here in the centre, and is showing her true cheeky side! Both Smudge and Bear are worried at the vets, and will need some reassurance and support in this area, but with patience and understanding, they will become the sweetest companions! Bear is a brave boy and likes to explore new places, but both would prefer their potential adopters to go a little slower with handling until they have built a bond and they will soon be your best friends!

About Smudge

What life with Smudge looks like

Smudge is a small young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smudge, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smudge?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smudge on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smudge if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smudge already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smudge isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smudge and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
