Smudge

Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Smudge is looking for a home where he is the only pet and can get all the attention to himself. He could live with older, dog-savvy teens who are patient and understanding of his boundaries. He will require a family who are home most of the time as he can be nervous when left alone, and will need to gradually build up leaving hours. If you are able to offer a kind, gentle home for Smudge then don't forget to favourite him when submitting an application. Meet the handsome Smudge. Smudge is a 2 year old Lakeland Terrier cross Jack Russel Terrier. Smudge is a very curious boy and loves exploring the world through his nose. He loves to investigate his surroundings and would love a home where he is able to explore at his own pace. Smudge can be shy when meeting new people and although he warms up quickly, he will need a family that can be patient and understanding with this. He will need multiple meets at the centre to help build a bond with his new family before going home, so a calm and committed family is essential for him. Smudge can be reactive to other dogs when out and about, so would benefit from quieter walking areas and a family committed to training and confidence building.

About Smudge

What life with Smudge looks like

Smudge is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smudge, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smudge?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smudge on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smudge if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Smudge already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smudge isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smudge and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
