Snickers

Mixed Breed · Male · Baby

Snickers (born July 2016) has made positive progress. During our last visit to Shumen in April 2026, he surprised us immensely. Snickers has not been available for adoption before, and he is not an aggressive dog, but he has never bitten anyone. However, most people struggle with dogs that snap, even if it's just in the air. Since we evaluate dogs very carefully and are very cautious, we have not placed Snickers in the shelter so far. Unfortunately, it is often the case that the mind must decide against the heart in animal welfare. However, Snickers surprised us and we think he is now adoptable. He needs to be placed with the right people, and only those who have experience with more difficult dogs. It is important to be able to read dogs and to handle them accordingly, especially if Snickers happens to snap in the air. Snickers has lived in the shelter in Shumen, Bulgaria, for an incredibly long 8 years. So far, he showed no great interest in contact with us, but in April it was different. He presented himself as very affectionate and actively sought contact and closeness to me. He wanted to be stroked and even jumped up at me. It was touching to see how Snickers suddenly did not want to leave my side anymore and even licked my hand. He also particularly enjoyed being stroked at the tip of his tail. When we brought treats into the enclosure, he was over the moon. He even jumped up at me in the hope of getting a little more. During this stay, I deliberately spent a lot of time in his enclosure to observe him and assess him better. After a few days, Snickers was absolutely no problem to be leashed. He was even happy when we took him on a short walk outside. I can only say: Snickers has touched my heart, and we would all be thrilled if he could experience what it feels like to live in a home again after so many years in the shelter, to lie in a soft basket, to have it warm and dry in the winter, and to be loved and cared for. We see Snickers in a quiet household without children, in a rural area, a small garden would be fantastic. Snickers is about 51/52 cm tall. During the dental check-up last October, he weighed about 22 kg. Due to his age, Snickers suffers from a cataract. He also has an adenoma on the eyelid, which we had operated on at one of our partner veterinarians in Germany at the association's expense. Snickers has never had problems with other dogs. He has been bitten twice, but he himself has never had any fights with dogs. A first-time dog could therefore live in the new home. Now it's time to keep your fingers crossed that the dream comes true and we find the right home for our Snickers! He is chipped, vaccinated, vaccinated annually, and we think he is finally ready for a new life stage! Snickers is currently in the Shumen shelter in Bulgaria, which is run by the association Grund zur Hoffnung e.V. For more information, please visit the following link: E-mail: Opens in new window. About Snickers

What life with Snickers looks like

Snickers is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed animal waiting at Tierschutz Celle in Celle.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Snickers far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Snickers, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Snickers?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Celle handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Snickers on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Snickers if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Celle will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Snickers already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Snickers isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Celle early rather than rehoming privately; they know Snickers and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
