Snoop

Male · Adult · 4 years

Meet the handsome and cozy Snoop! This handsome 5-year-old dog ended up in the shelter in Utrecht because he was too protective at home and this didn't fit into his situation. NOTE: Snoop is currently staying at the Tilburg animal shelter. Originally from Greece, Snoop came to the Netherlands as a young puppy. The mountain dog roots are still clearly recognizable in his behavior and character: he is extremely loyal to his owner and protects his territory with everything he has. A busy neighborhood or a house with frequent visitors is not for him. Once he's off his own turf, he's more approachable and warms up quickly to new people. Once he knows you well and has had time to get to know you, you have a very loyal and affectionate friend by your side. Winning his heart is worth its weight in gold; once he has, he's a real cuddle bug! He loves walking; he walks calmly and listens well. Running outdoors is fantastic for him, and playing in the garden is also really his thing. A garden is a must for Snoop - he enjoys the great outdoors to the fullest. Rolling in the grass, playing with his favorite rope toy or tug-of-war with his owner: it makes him very happy. He can also get along well with most other dogs and plays enthusiastically together. He's not really fond of a big showoff, but he can really appreciate a fairly quiet companion to run around with the occasional sprint. Because of his protective nature, we don't place Snoop with young children. He has a strong protective instinct and likes to guard his home and his people. This doesn't fit in a young family with possible friends coming over, etc. Snoop prefers women, but can also be placed with a man after getting used to it quietly. It is particularly important that his protective nature is taken into account so he can do this safely in the environment where he ends up. Are you looking for a loyal companion with character who loves exercise, company and lots of cuddles? Then Snoop might just be your perfect match!

NL·Show original

About Snoop

What life with Snoop looks like

Snoop is a large adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Snoop, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Snoop?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Snoop on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Snoop if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Snoop already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Snoop isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Snoop and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
