Socke

Collie · Male · Senior · 9 years

Socke, a 9-year-old neutered Collie, is looking for a new home due to changes in his family's circumstances. He is stressed by a 2-year-old toddler who is now starting to walk, which keeps him from resting and causes constant stress. His family has decided to find him a quieter home. Socke is a loving Collie who was brought from Greece in 2017. He has been worked with extensively, and his owner had to start from scratch, just like with a puppy. She has slowly made him suitable for everyday life and accustomed him to noises. He is still somewhat noise-sensitive! Socke enjoys car rides and loves water! He approaches other dogs positively and friendly. He is well-behaved on a leash, but sometimes barks if other dogs do the same first, although he prefers to be off-leash. He can stay alone for a few hours. Cats should not be in the household! We are looking for a quiet family for Socke that can provide him with secure, confident, and consistent guidance. The family should enjoy doing headwork with Socke. Socke should not participate in dog sports due to mild arthritis. We are looking for a quiet home with a house and a fenced garden, which would be his dream. A compatible, quiet second dog would be possible! Socke lives in Kiel and would need to be visited there. Please understand that only serious inquiries with full name, phone number, and address will be answered. The more information you provide in advance, the better we can determine whether the Collie is suitable for you. Short emails... where is the Collie, we already had Collies, the last one died... will not be answered. Your email with a detailed description to Heidi Jostschulte hjostschulte(ät)webdotde (ät stands for @)

About Socke

What life with Socke looks like

Socke is a senior collie dog waiting at Collies suchen ein Zuhause in Oldenburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Socke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Socke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Collies suchen ein Zuhause handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Socke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Socke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Collies suchen ein Zuhause will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Socke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Socke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Collies suchen ein Zuhause early rather than rehoming privately; they know Socke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
