Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Mixed-breed female dog, spayed In a foster home in 64579 Gernsheim Sofia at a glance: Gentle, calm, balanced, affectionate, cuddly, intelligent, loyal, undemanding, on a leash, no hunting instinct, no barking, can be alone, stair-safe, mild incontinence (medically well-controlled), compatible with other dogs, prefers single-dog or male-dog households, looking for a rural home. Sofia, a faithful soul, wants to finally arrive. The gentle Sofia is an older female dog with a calm and balanced nature. She is generally compatible, but would rather live as a single dog or with a male dog than with another female dog. In April 2025, Sofia arrived at an animal shelter as a found animal after the small shop she had lived in for years had closed. She was well-known there: she was always friendly and liked to accompany people who walked their dogs. A neighbor who had known Sofia for a long time describes her as very affectionate and loving. Sofia is attached and cuddly. She enjoys the closeness to her people, but also needs loving and clear boundaries, on which she can orient herself. From her time in Bulgaria, Sofia knows children and was considered very child-loving there. However, we suspect that our older dog girl would prefer a quieter home today. Thanks to her intelligent nature, Sofia learns quickly and is open to new experiences. However, she is not a dog that constantly needs new adventures, but values a quiet and steady life. She is loyal to her people and is pleasantly undemanding. Sofia walks well on a leash and shows no hunting instinct. Sofia is not one of the dogs that constantly barks. She masters stairs without problems, and leaving alone is no problem for her. Sofia has mild incontinence, which can be completely controlled with a daily tablet. She feels safe in the house, although she probably lived outside for a long time. All the more beautiful is that she has apparently not prevented her friendly, grateful and content nature from her past. Sofia is a wonderful companion for people who want to give an older dog another chance. We see her more in the countryside than in the middle of a hectic city. She needs neither sporting excellence nor an exciting adventure program, but a loving home in which she can relax and enjoy her twilight years. Sofia especially enjoys going for walks. She walks well on a leash and enjoys joint outings with her people. We can imagine Sofia well with dog-experienced people who have already had dogs and appreciate the advantages of an older dog. A quiet household in the countryside, where she finds security and consistency, would certainly be a nice home for her. Are you interested in Sofia? About Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe

What life with Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe looks like

Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Hattersheim und Umgebung e.V. in Hattersheim am Main.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Hattersheim und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Hattersheim und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Hattersheim und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sofia/ Vermittlungshilfe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
