Profile: Age: approx. August 2021 Gender: female, spayed Size and weight: 53 cm and approx. 16 kg Character: shy, reserved but curious, cautious Child compatibility: possible from teenage age onwards Species compatibility: yes Cat compatibility: unknown, therefore not rehomed with cats Hunting instinct: no Suitable for first-time dog owners: no Desired home: rural area, garden (not mandatory), only dog (not mandatory), loving and active people In Germany since: 2025 Hello... I am Solana, but my foster family usually calls me Sola. And before we start, I better be honest right away: I am not the dog that immediately runs towards you, licks you, and acts as if we have known each other for ten years. I am rather the type of dog that first thinks: "Wait... who are you?" Then I look. Then I sniff. And then... maybe... I come a little closer. I am still in the process of understanding this big, sometimes quite crazy human world. As a young lady, I have a lot of potential; and a healthy dose of caution in my luggage. Strangers seem a bit scary to me at the moment. Especially when they appear in groups or suddenly move or make noise. Then I think to myself: "I'll just go over there quickly." I can run away very well. But don't worry! I am working on becoming braver. My foster family helps me every day. Outdoors, for example, I already orient myself pretty well with my person, as long as the stress is not too high. I pay a lot of attention to body language and often understand what someone means faster than they think. And secretly something is already happening: I am now coming closer more often to cautiously sniff my people. (Don't worry, I do it very politely.) Touching is still difficult for me. If I can't avoid it, I sometimes freeze for a moment. But outdoors, physical contact can even help me when something is stressful. Then I realize: "Okay... maybe it's not all that bad." I generally get along well with other dogs. The female dog in my foster family and visiting dogs are completely fine with me. I tend to avoid unfamiliar dogs outside. If they are polite, I let them sniff me and sometimes I even sniff them after they have gone on their way. Playing with dogs is something I haven't discovered yet. Maybe that will come. However, I have to confess one thing: If there is still food in my bowl and another dog comes too close, I clearly say: "Um... excuse me... that's MY food." But only when it comes to food, otherwise I am really not a fighter! Children are difficult for me at the moment, especially if they are loud or move quickly. Then I would rather go away. At home, I can now relax and unwind. Being alone for an hour or two, with or without another dog, already works. I love driving in cars and I can already climb stairs. I am still practicing housebreaking - during the day it already works quite well. Only at night in the dark I still find it a bit complicated. By the way, my foster family says I am curious and friendly, just a bit unsure. They believe I am actually a lively female dog who would certainly enjoy being out and about, maybe hiking or going on longer walks. I just need people who show me that the world isn't so scary. That's why I wish for a home with experienced dog owners who understand that courage sometimes grows very quietly. People who give me security and don't overwhelm me. A quiet home with structure would be perfect for me. There should be no small children living there. I would probably feel most comfortable on the edge of a city or in a rural area, near nature, where we can go for walks together. Active people would be great, who like being outdoors and slowly show me how beautiful the world can be. I may not be a dog who instantly conquers all hearts. But I am curious, sensitive, and ready to learn. And if you give me time and a little patience... then maybe someday I could become a female dog who quietly follows you, looks at you attentively, and thinks: "Okay... I think I can trust you." Solana was born around 2021 and is dewormed, treated for fleas, vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and rehomed with a European passport against an adoption fee of 460 € with V. Additionally, a rapid test for Mediterranean diseases was conducted prior to travel arrangements, which was negative. These beautiful photos of Solana were kindly provided by Sophia Kratsch.

About Solana

What life with Solana looks like

Solana is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Solana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Solana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Solana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Solana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Solana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Solana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Solana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
