Sonny

Lurcher Β· Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Sonny is a timid boy who isn't totally sure about his current circumstances. He arrived via another rescue and he is worried about new situations, preferring to spend his time on the inside of his kennel rather than outside, watching what's going on. Ideally we would find Sonny a quiet home with few visitors initially, so he can get to grips with his new environment, and his adopters may need to visit him a few times at the centre to build a bond with him. If Sonny is given time and encouragement then he does settle. When he arrived, Sonny was kennelled with another dog but they were squabbling. Sonny doesn't seem wholly comfortable around other dogs in general when he's out and about, so he would certainly be happiest as the only dog at home. That's not to say he can't have some calm friends for walking once he's settled in, but living with another dog is not really an option for him at present. We've seen Sonny play with toys so we know he can relax, and he loves his treats. He's only a year or so old so has plenty time to become comfortable and adjust to home life, but he shouldn't be rushed. Sonny can live with children of high school age but will need to be the only pet at home. We have very limited history for him also cannot guarantee that he is house trained or used to spending time at home alone.

About Sonny

What life with Sonny looks like

Sonny is a young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sonny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sonny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sonny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sonny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sonny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sonny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sonny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
