Adopt Sonny

Mixed Breed · Male

Due to the ongoing proceedings, we are looking for a temporary home for him. Temperament: Sonny is a very young terrier-type dog who ended up in an animal shelter due to intervention, so he is seeking a temporary home with priority for adoption. Sonny was very scared at first and only trusted people went out with him on walks. Currently, Sonny is making great progress and getting to know new people is going better and better, but before he feels comfortable with someone, he needs several meetings. After that, he readily approaches for pets and shows interest in closeness. On walks, he walks nicely on a loose leash. Initially, he can be overexcited, but he quickly calms down. A new environment can be somewhat stressful for him - noises, sudden movements, and unfamiliar places are a challenge for him. He does not react with aggression, but seeks support from a person and calmness. When he sees other dogs, he is happy and positively oriented towards them. He prefers non-aggressive dogs, and is sometimes timid towards loud, energetic ones. We are looking for a home that will provide him with time, space, and patience so he can gradually become accustomed to the new world and learn that people can be trustworthy.

About Sonny

What life with Sonny looks like

Sonny is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sonny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sonny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sonny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sonny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sonny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sonny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sonny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
