Sookie and Piper

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

‘OLD DOG OF THE WEEK’ FEATURES NEW PHOTOS AND A FRESH WRITE-UP FOR AN OVERLOOKED OLDIE THAT HAS BEEN ON OUR WEBSITE FOR A WHILE BUT IS STILL WAITING FOR A NEW HOME. Please help Sookie and Piper by sharing this page! Dogs Friends are delighted to bring you this delightful Chihuahua duo, Sookie and Piper! They are currently in a foster home in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset. Piper (black, 9 years old) is believed to be the mother of Sookie (blonde, 8 years) and they are devoted to each other. They can be rehomed within the South West of England or South East of Wales. Sookie and Piper would like a child-free retirement home where they are the only pets. They might be OK with older teenagers but they really do want a peaceful home without many comings and goings. On walks they prefer to avoid other dogs and any traffic or other harassments. Quiet walks in nature only please. They don't actually need daily walks as long as they have a secure garden to enjoy. Sookie is a surprisingly springy girl and needs fences of 6ft! One thing they both love is some time in a secure field where they can show off their agility. Sookie is incredibly affectionate and just wants a kind, calm person to love her. She clearly feels a lot of emotion and seeks to please. Her eagerness to please makes her very receptive to training. Piper would happily spend all day under a blanket. She’s independent and knows what she likes. She loves food and food based games. Piper is quite timid and easily overwhelmed by the big wide world so could do with building up her confidence gently. These lovely ladies are both spayed and in good health but need a bit of care taken with their diet, low protein and consistent, as their tummies can be sensitive. If you live near enough to Weston-super-Mare and want to enquire about these little cuties please contact Dogs Friends as follows: Please read the Dogs Friends’ Adoption Information and access their online application form or Email: Please say you saw Sookie and Piper featured as Old Dogs of the Week on the Oldies Club website. This replaces Sookie and Piper's previous page dated 18 January 2026.

About Sookie and Piper

What life with Sookie and Piper looks like

Sookie and Piper is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sookie and Piper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sookie and Piper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sookie and Piper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sookie and Piper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sookie and Piper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sookie and Piper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sookie and Piper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
