Adopt Sooty

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Young · 2 years

Sooty – Sweet, shy girl looking for a patient forever home 🖤 Sooty is a gorgeous black Domestic Short Hair girl aged 2 years and 4 months who is searching for a calm and understanding forever home. She originally came into rescue because she did not get along with the dog in her previous home. Since moving into foster care, Sooty has settled in beautifully and is currently living happily with the resident male cat. The two get along very well and love playing together, so Sooty would like to live with another friendly feline companion. Sooty is naturally a shy and sensitive girl, and she can be nervous in new environments or around new people. When she first arrives in a home, she is likely to hide away while she settles and learns to feel safe. She will need patient adopters who are happy to give her the time and space she needs to come out of her shell at her own pace. Once she feels comfortable, Sooty’s lovely personality starts to shine through. She is very sweet, affectionate in her own gentle way, and enjoys sitting with her humans once she trusts them. While she is happy spending time on her own, she will come and seek affection and company when she feels relaxed and secure. She also has a playful side and loves toys she can chase around, especially toys she can bat, chase, kick or pounce on. Food is definitely the way to Sooty’s heart! She absolutely loves treats, biscuits, and mealtimes, and a few Dreamies go a long way in helping her build confidence! Sooty currently enjoys: * Whiskas wet food * Blink cat food * Dreamies treats * Any dry biscuits, currently eating Nood * Toys she can chase, and kicker toys * Clumping cat litter, although she isn’t particularly fussy Although Sooty previously had access to the outdoors in her old home, her previous owners advised that she rarely chose to go outside. Because of her timid nature and tendency to be easily startled, we feel Sooty would be best suited to a quieter home with the company of another cat. We are unsure whether she would be suitable for young children due to how shy she can be. Sooty is: ✔ Spayed ✔ Microchipped ✔ Up to date with vaccinations The successful adopter will need to collect Sooty from the Worsley area of Manchester. If you can offer Sooty the patience, kindness, and understanding she needs, you’ll gain a sweet and loving companion who will reward your care with trust, affection, and gentle companionship. 🖤 Please click on the gallery photos below for full-size images:

About Sooty

What life with Sooty looks like

Sooty is a young adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Avid in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sooty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sooty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Avid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sooty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sooty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Avid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sooty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sooty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Avid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sooty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
