Sophia

Mastiff · Female · Young · 2 years

Sophia is a 2 and a half year old Mastiff cross ready and looking for her forever home.Sophia is a playful girl who loves to be physically and mentally stimulated. She loves her toys and having fun. She is looking for a home with a secure garden. She loves to be with people and having lots of fuss. She builds bonds quickly and has settled well into her foster home. She thrives having a routine as well which has helped with her transition into her foster home.Sophia enjoys her walks and being out and about. She does find walks in busy places very overwhelming and does display high reactivity around other dogs. She is muzzle trained and walks with her muzzle on. She would be best suited to walks in quieter, more rural areas with fewer dogs to prevent her becoming over-stimulated and frustrated. She is undergoing training while in her foster home but this will need to be continued in her forever home and can be discussed further upon application.Since being in care, Sophia has undergone multiple surgeries to treat her Cherry eye condition which has been a success and she is much more comfortable.Sophia needs to be the only dog in the home and is not able to live with cats and small furries. She would be able to live with sensible children over the age of 16 years who are familiar with larger breed dogs. She can be left on her own for short periods and does settle well and gives a lovely welcome when her foster family come home.If you feel that Sophia is the dog for you then please

About Sophia

What life with Sophia looks like

Sophia is a small young adult mastiff dog waiting at RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sophia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sophia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sophia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sophia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sophia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sophia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sophia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
