adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Sophia can stay forever in your foster home! Her story: The beautiful Malamute-Mix lady Sophia is waiting in her foster home for your visit. The noble female dog has an extraordinary aura and immediately captivates everyone… Originally from Bistrita, Romania, Sophia was surrendered to the public shelter in Bistrita together with her brother Ulky. The two siblings likely came from a breeder who wanted to get rid of them and no longer had any use for the two. Ulky and Sophia had already been in the shelter since October 2022. At first, the two were never seen, as they had hidden in the hut and were almost invisible. The environment, the noise, the stress, and the confinement took a toll on the two. We also assume that Sophia was not well-treated in her earlier life. Sophia is very timid and would rather disappear into the ground. With her wonderful fur pattern, she is a true sight. She looks straight into your heart, always waiting for something bad to happen. Her eyes do not sparkle with joy. They appear empty… She is afraid of touch but shows no aggression. She can be touched, but she cannot yet enjoy it. Some time will be needed for Sophia to adjust. Her brother was rehomed in the summer of 2023 and has already developed well and become a proud dog who enjoys life. That is exactly what we also wish for our Sophia. Sophia is about 60cm smaller than her brother but still belongs to the large dogs. She is about 5.5 years old. We wish for this wonderful female dog, sensitive people who will show her with patience and time how beautiful a dog life can be. With enough quiet time if it gets too restless for her. She should always be allowed to set her own pace and be able to decide what is doable or not for her.

About Sophia

What life with Sophia looks like

Sophia is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sophia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sophia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sophia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sophia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sophia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sophia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sophia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
