Souela, Amaya & Pepe

Unknown · 3 years

Souela has been with us for much too long and hasn't had much luck so far. She came to us because she was lonely and that shouldn't be the case. At our shelter, she found her first great love and also a best friend. Unfortunately, both passed away in the last few years—so she was once again alone. She was fortunate to have a new friend by her side, Amaya, and last year, Pepe joined the group, making the trio complete. Souela is very open with people and likes to sing together with her caregivers. Amaya is still very young—this is also noticeable: she is very curious, playful, and will become even braver with Souela by her side. Pepe, also still quite young, is very reserved and observes everything from a safe distance first. With much patience and time, he slowly warms up and even approaches people for a nut. The three get along well together and could be rehomed as a trio. An existing male Amazon would be ideal and should be integrated into the group long-term to ensure harmony. All three could also be rehomed individually as suitable partner animals. In that case, Amaya and Souela would each seek a male Venezuelan Amazon of the same age, while Pepe would look for a female Venezuelan Amazon of the same age. The three currently live in an outdoor aviary with a heated interior. Since Souela is familiar with this husbandry, a similar setup would be a good match. A spacious room with sufficient fresh air and a spot at a secure window would also be an option, but would need to be individually assessed. Pepe and Amaya also need sufficient space—an outdoor setup with a heated interior is always the better choice for Amazons, as they can quickly develop breathing problems with too little fresh air.

DE·Show original

About Souela, Amaya & Pepe

What life with Souela, Amaya & Pepe looks like

Souela, Amaya & Pepe is a large adult bird waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

Note from the shelter: Requires outdoor aviary with heated indoor area or spacious room with fresh air access. Social species needing appropriate Amazon parrot companions.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Souela, Amaya & Pepe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Souela, Amaya & Pepe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Souela, Amaya & Pepe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Souela, Amaya & Pepe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Souela, Amaya & Pepe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Souela, Amaya & Pepe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Souela, Amaya & Pepe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
