Sparks

Male · Adult · 7 years

Sparks was previously placed with a family but unfortunately had to return to us. For a long time, Sparks was very happy in his former home until he was repeatedly attacked and injured by a stray cat from the neighborhood. His wounds were treated and healed, but Sparks was understandably frightened and unsettled. He seemed to no longer feel comfortable outdoors in his own home due to the attacks and even attacked his caregiver in desperation. Together we decided that the best thing for Sparks would be a fresh start in an environment without any pre-existing issues. And there is good news: Sparks is a great, robust fellow who apparently has suffered no lasting physical or emotional consequences. In the shelter he has been friendly and open to us from the beginning. He felt (back) at ease in the cat house almost from the first second and so far has reacted well to his fellow cats. However, due to his history we prefer to place him as a single prince in his new home. Although we hope that he can find his way back to his safe, peaceful side again, Sparks should not move in with cat beginners or small children. In the future he would also like to enjoy outdoor time again. Characteristically, Sparks is usually uncomplicated. His former owner says about him: "He 'tells' a lot and loves to play, especially with a fishing rod or a cat tunnel. He is curious and observes his surroundings very attentively. Sparks was always immediately on the spot when the printer ran. He loved it when the paper came out and watched it curiously every time. In the apartment he likes to jump up onto shelves or cupboards to get an overview from above. He also likes to sit by the window and look outside. He loves to catch mice. Over time, he has expanded his radius further and further. Sparks builds a very close bond with his human. Since I worked mostly from home, we were together a lot. When I called him, he almost always came immediately. He is very person-oriented and enjoys the closeness of his human. If I was away for one or more days on business or on vacation, he made it clear to me when I returned that he did not like my absence. Therefore, two people in the household would be ideal." Sparks unfortunately has gotten used to eating only dry food despite many efforts. We are trying to convince him of wet food; it would be great if this were continued in his new home. Unfortunately, Sparks is also slightly overweight, which should be worked on slowly but steadily in the future. In 2024 he was operated on due to FORL. The dental disease is unfortunately common in cats and incurable. It is very likely that Sparks will need to undergo surgery again at some point in his life, so regular check-ups with a veterinarian are necessary.

About Sparks

What life with Sparks looks like

Sparks is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sparks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sparks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sparks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sparks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sparks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sparks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sparks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
