Speedy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Speedy, male, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, born in 2020, is a mixed-breed dog with a special character. Despite a difficult past, he displays a loving and gentle nature. In his previous home, he was beaten and mistreated. These experiences have left deep scars that continue to influence his behavior and how he reacts to people today. Speedy often approaches unfamiliar people with great uncertainty. Unlike a more reserved dog, when he feels afraid or threatened, he goes straight for the offensive—using his teeth if necessary to create distance. He especially treats men with caution and makes it very clear when someone makes him uncomfortable. For this reason, a calm, experienced home is absolutely essential. At our facility, Speedy reliably wears his muzzle. This gives him a sense of security and protects others, while also allowing him to participate more freely in everyday life. His past has made him cautious and vigilant, but with the right guidance and plenty of patience, he proves to be a loyal and affectionate companion. Still, Speedy has a playful and joyful side. He loves walks above all else, and water is his passion—swimming brings him pure joy. He’s a highly intelligent dog. He already knows several tricks and enjoys learning new ones—of course, always with the right rewards. In general, he gets along well with other dogs, but he’d prefer to live as an only dog and enjoy his home as a quiet retreat. Cats and children are not suitable companions for him, and his hunting instinct should be taken into account. With his trusted humans, Speedy reveals a different, particularly beautiful side: He’s cuddly, playful, and affectionate, and thoroughly enjoys being close to his people. Trust builds slowly with him, and you need to be prepared to work at his own pace. He doesn’t forget mistakes right away, and he clearly shows when something becomes too much for him. It’s crucial to be able to read his body language and respect his boundaries at all times. At the same time, he’s stubborn and needs empathetic yet consistent leadership that provides him with security and sets clear limits. We’re looking for a calm, structured, and understanding home for Speedy—ideally one located in a more rural setting. People who are willing to patiently accompany him at his own pace will gain an extraordinary friend—a dog who will repay their love, loyalty, and affection in abundance once he’s earned their trust. Speedy is NOT at the animal shelter in Plattling, but at the animal shelter Benk/Pfarrkirchen; phone number for inquiries:

DE·Show original

About Speedy

What life with Speedy looks like

Speedy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Plattling in Plattling.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Speedy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Speedy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Plattling handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Speedy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Speedy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Plattling will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Speedy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Speedy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Plattling early rather than rehoming privately; they know Speedy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
