Spiky

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Spiky, a purebred mix, who has it all. The young male dog had to leave his home unfortunately, as he could no longer be sufficiently exercised and trained. Spiky has been with us since he was 7 months old. His initial hunting behavior can now be well controlled, but is still present. With his trusted people he is very cuddly, can be corrected and is easy to handle, but is very suspicious towards strangers and needs to be worked with good management. Also, he, typically, has a very low threshold for stimulation and likes to get going and test how far he can go. The great male dog knows many basic commands and loves working with his humans. Therefore, attending a dog training class is also very important and meaningful, although individual training is preferable. Spiky would be a great companion for people with dog and breed experience who would like to work with him. Dog sports, Rally Obedience, or even a BH test would be possible with him. Also, nose work is something the great male dog enjoys and is fun while working. Spiky is a challenge and not an easy-to-handle dog, but in the right hands a great companion. He is generally compatible with other animals, of course, it always depends on the sympathy. At our shelter he gets along well with various female dogs, but also one or another male dog has been a playmate for him. The handsome male dog needs a home with experience, time and love. Spiky always wears a muzzle during walks and training, he has no problem with it and it is also an important accessory in a home. Children and other pets should not live in the new home. A confident female dog, on the other hand, could be a great addition for Spiky. This dog has a prey drive. Gets along with other dogs.

DE·Show original

About Spiky

What life with Spiky looks like

Spiky is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Landkreis Freising in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spiky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spiky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Landkreis Freising handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spiky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spiky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Landkreis Freising will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spiky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spiky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Landkreis Freising early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spiky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
