Spirou

European Shorthair · Unknown · Kitten · 4 months

I may have been one of the kittens you saw on the news, sick and weak when we took you in. Well... I was that kitten. When I arrived, I didn't look my best. My eyes were almost closed, my nose was full of snot and I clearly wasn't feeling well. Luckily, that difficult start is slowly behind me. I'm recovering and behind that sick face came out an incredibly sweet, social and playful kitten of almost 4 months. I'm currently still on antibiotics and so I have to recover a bit more. Still, I can start sniffing around for that one special place: my own home. Of course, I'm not allowed to leave until our vet gives the green light. My health comes first. But maybe my future owner can find me in the meantime? Who falls in love with my new face and gives me the beautiful cat life that's waiting for me after this difficult start?

NL·Show original

About Spirou

What life with Spirou looks like

Spirou is a puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Ganzeweide in Veurne.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spirou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spirou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Ganzeweide handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spirou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spirou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Ganzeweide will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spirou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spirou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Ganzeweide early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spirou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
