Sprint

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Male dog Sprint, born approx. 08/2024, shoulder height approx. 57 cm, weight approx. 16 kilos, seeking a basket starting immediately. Sprint is an incredibly sweet and people-oriented male, full of energy and joie de vivre. He loves being close to people and enjoys every bit of attention, but above all he looks forward to finally being out and about together. Sprint was abandoned at the village stadium, where he was used to moving about freely. He even ran over with enthusiasm alongside the participants of a half marathon, accompanying them on their laps. Today he sits in a small, fenced enclosure and finds this limited freedom of movement hard to cope with. Sprint is very active and hardly gets any rest at the shelter. He runs a lot, jumps up at the fence, and tries somehow to work off his excess energy. It must be remembered that a shelter kennel is simply not the right place for such an active young dog. We can well imagine that his behavior will calm down considerably in a suitable home with plenty of exercise, activity, and regular walks. For Sprint, we are therefore looking for very active people who truly enjoy integrating a sporty dog into their everyday lives. Extended walks, hikes, jogging, or other shared activities – Sprint wants to take part and put his energy to good use. At the same time, he will of course still need support in learning to settle down and understanding that action is not always on the agenda. If you enjoy the idea of a sporty companion and would like to show Sprint the world beyond the enclosure, you could be exactly the person this wonderful fellow is waiting for. We do not place dogs in very urban housing or with families with young children. Please only submit an adoption request if taking over the dog at the time stated in the text is possible and you have already discussed welcoming a new family member with your family (and, where applicable, other involved parties such as employers, landlords, or temporary carers). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their large foster home or in the shelter, in a limited, secure environment, and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on their behavior in this familiar environment. Puppies and young dogs in particular are still developing their character. For a successful settling-in period in a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to the new surroundings and the various stimuli and to grow into confident dogs.

About Sprint

What life with Sprint looks like

Sprint is a large puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sprint, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sprint?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sprint on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sprint if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sprint already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sprint isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sprint and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
