Steve

Border Collie · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Steve is a 16-week-old Border Collie-Friesian Stabij mix who is eager to explore the world with the right guidance. He is full of energy, loves to play, cuddle, and have fun, and enjoys investigating his surroundings. Steve enjoys playing with other dogs but has difficulty understanding dog language, so it would be ideal to place him with a stable adult dog who can help him with this. Due to not being well socialized in his early weeks, Steve finds the outdoors very exciting. We have also noticed that he is intimidated by most men and will need some time to get used to them. Steve has shown signs of possessive aggression, but he is fortunately very eager to learn and food-motivated. Given his young age, we are confident that he can learn a lot with the right guidance. We are looking for a situation where Steve is raised with patience and clarity. We place him with people who have experience with dogs, preferably with the breed or a similar breed. Steve is not placed with children under 12 years old due to his possessive aggression. Interested in Steve? Interesse in Steve?

About Steve

What life with Steve looks like

Steve is a large puppy border collie dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Steve, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Steve?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Steve on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Steve if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Steve already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Steve isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Steve and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
