Adopt Stropp

Saint Bernard · Female · Adult · 8 years

Hometown: Romania Breed: likely Bernhardiner-Herdenschutzhund Mix Gender: male, neutered Color: tricolor Shoulder height: approx. 68 cm. Weight: 38 kgDate of birth: approx. November 2018 (vet estimated age 7 years)Location: 71729 Erdmannshausen Stropp is a sensitive, very people-oriented Bernhardiner-Herdenschutzhund mix with a calm, balanced nature. He is cuddly, bond-strong, and wants to belong. Typically observed, Stropp watches his surroundings very attentively and needs time to assess new situations. Once everything is clarified, he shows himself to be sovereign and calm. He meets unfamiliar dogs politely to uninterested, and if there is a mutual liking, he plays. Provocateurs he ignores; if it becomes too much, he can react; in clear dominance, he can be well managed. The same applies to the household environment: he alerts visitors, orienting himself to his primary caregiver. Stropp can be left alone for about 4 hours. He accepts cats without problems, and an existing only dog is welcome if there is mutual liking. Stropp is fit, medically thoroughly checked, with lab values present. His eyelid condition was surgically corrected. The fur around his right eye is still growing. A quiet, structured home with one to two trusted people is sought. Breed experience, clear rules, and careful resource management are important. That Stropp needs enough space is self-evident. The shelter can provide more information: Peggy WölflEmail: (please email or SMS first) Our dogs are vaccinated (rabies and 2x basic immunization), microchipped, and equipped with the EU pet passport at our expense (we cover the lab fees) tested for common Mediterranean diseases: Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, leishmaniasis, rickettsiae, filariasis, hepatozoonosis, anaplasmosis. About Stropp

What life with Stropp looks like

Stropp is a adult saint bernard dog waiting at Tierhilfe Lebenswert e.V. in Oberwies.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Stropp, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Stropp?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Lebenswert e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Stropp on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Stropp if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Lebenswert e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Stropp already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Stropp isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Lebenswert e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Stropp and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
