Strumpf

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Adult · 8 years

Strumpf came to us from a bad situation along with several other cats. Unfortunately, not all of them made it. However, Strumpf has fought her way back into life and is now ready to start a new chapter. She has had some treatments and has always been a rather shy cat. Given everything she has experienced, she is understandably still very skeptical of people. Nevertheless, she is easy to handle and is already showing small but significant progress: she occasionally closes her eyes to us, a gentle sign of trust that makes us very happy. Cuddling or playing are not part of her routine at the moment, though. For Strumpf, we wish for a quiet home without children, with patient people who give her the time she needs. She should finally be able to experience that people can also mean safety, peace, and security. A social and accessible second cat could help her settle in faster in her new home. Strumpf has not had a good life. She was not taken care of, and she had to go through a lot. All the more we wish for her a loving home with empathetic people who do not have expectations of her, but meet her with patience and understanding. We are sure that behind her cautious nature is a cat that will gain trust and enjoy her new life over time.

DE·Show original

About Strumpf

What life with Strumpf looks like

Strumpf is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich (Cantonal).

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Strumpf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Strumpf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Strumpf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Strumpf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Strumpf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Strumpf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Strumpf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
