Suerte

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Suerte is a beautiful female Podenco who roamed the area around the Andalusian town of Baeza. Always by her side was a large male dog, whom we named Lotus. Suerte was often spotted near the animal shelter, but she was shy, did not trust anyone, and hid. One day, a local resident discovered that Suerte had given birth to puppies. Since she was always with Lotus, we are quite sure he is the father. With the birth of the little ones, it was clear that waiting was no longer an option. The babies were in danger on the street. A live trap was organized and the man who discovered the small family kept them in sight until they were finally all secured. The arrival and life in the animal shelter was initially very difficult for Suerte. Life on the street is hard, finding food, finding a safe place, avoiding danger at all times. For a pregnant female dog, of course, it is even harder. It takes time for Suerte to regain her strength and it is not easy for her to adjust from life on the street to her new life here. Although Suerte still seems lost here, she has never neglected her role as a mom and has cared for her two puppies tirelessly and lovingly. The volunteer helpers are doing their best, with limited means and little time, to prepare her for a new life now. So that the shy Podenca becomes more confident and trusting, the volunteers spend as much time as possible with Suerte. She may now experience for the first time that touches are loving and that people only want the best for her. Practical things are also on Suerte's small "curriculum". The volunteer helpers show her again and again that putting on a harness and walking on a leash is something beautiful: a bit of freedom and variety from the monotonous everyday life in the animal shelter. Suerte needs a bit more time and patience to really understand and enjoy this. It would be much easier for Suerte if she could learn all this in a new home. A person by her side or a family that shows her what life has to offer for a young Podenca. Whether she will be enthusiastic about hiking, jogging, nose work or couch cuddling, we will hopefully soon hear from her future home. Because we are sure that now the happy part of Suerte's life begins. Because that's exactly what her name means. If you want to know more about the beautiful Podenca and have questions about the placement procedure, just contact her contact person directly. Please check the call times and consider the night quiet.

DE·Show original

About Suerte

What life with Suerte looks like

Suerte is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Suerte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Suerte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Suerte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Suerte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Suerte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Suerte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Suerte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
