Sultan & Leila

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 2 years

Sultan & Leila are two of our former foster pets who unfortunately had to return to us due to suffering from severe stress caused by the child in the house. Leila is a very affectionate cat, while Sultan is more reserved - but he enjoys being petted by people he trusts. Both returned to us overweight, so we need to carefully monitor their food intake and use treats sparingly. However, this should regulate itself over time if the rules are followed. Sultan is very attached to his sister, whose confidence gives him a sense of security. Therefore, they should only be adopted together. While Leila was able to cope with the stress in her previous home, Sultan reached his mental limits. This led to him becoming unsociable in his old home. He simply didn't know how to deal with it. At our shelter, he has only shown unsociability after a lot of human visitors/strangers walk past his enclosure and it gets hectic. The new home should be quiet - no small children, dogs or a lot of commotion for the two. Since Sultan suffered greatly from the noise and stress caused by the child, they should only be adopted by calm people who have time and patience. Sultan is a kind-hearted cat who simply needs a second chance with the right people.

DE·Show original

About Sultan & Leila

What life with Sultan & Leila looks like

Sultan & Leila is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sultan & Leila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sultan & Leila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sultan & Leila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sultan & Leila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sultan & Leila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sultan & Leila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sultan & Leila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
