Sunny

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

I am female, neutered, vaccinated, and born around 2004. I am approximately 35cm tall. I have been waiting since June 2015 for a new home. My caretakers say about me: Sunny was an intake from the veterinary office out of unregulated circumstances. Overall, Sunny was loved, but not adequately medically cared for. So, fleas and lice were visibly present, but an allergy test was not necessary after appropriate treatment and high-quality feeding. Her blood values are very good despite her age; currently, the removal of a circumference around the rear paw, which has formed, is still pending, ideally a benign age spot. Sunny has lived with several cats together and was rarely alone. When she notices bipeds nearby, she loudly and persistently announces that she would like to be part of the group. Otherwise, she also remains quite well alone, preferably in the company of another dog or cats. She likes her walks, which do not have to be brisk, but she is still pleasantly fit for her age. She can't wait to get going and often barks in a hurry. Occasionally, she is a bit independent, if it doesn't immediately follow her pretty head, she tries to assert herself. Otherwise, it seems as though Sunny is already a bit in her own world and indulges in memories. Despite this, she is particularly popular with children, as she naturally enjoys every pat and walks nicely on the leash. Who would like to give the little Sunny another chance at a peaceful old age and pleasant hours in the green and on the couch…? The descriptions are impressions and photos of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in the new home.

About Sunny

What life with Sunny looks like

Sunny is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sunny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sunny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sunny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sunny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sunny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sunny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sunny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
