Sunny

Mixed Breed · Female

Sunny was found alone in a remote area of Romania near a highway by our animal welfare friends. It is unclear how long the mixed-breed female dog had been wandering there. When she came into the care of the animal welfare workers, she was severely dehydrated and covered with ticks. At our shelter, Sunny has been lovingly cared for and has since developed into a cheerful female dog, who now finally has the chance to find her own home. Due to her past, Sunny is a very sensitive female dog. She initially meets new stimuli, strangers, and unfamiliar situations shyly and cautiously. She first explores her surroundings very reservedly. If she receives security and support from her trusted people, she gradually gains the courage to look at new things or unknown bipeds up close. Once she has won someone's heart, Sunny shows herself to be a happy female dog that enjoys cuddles and is also enthusiastic about playing together. In dealing with other dogs, Sunny exhibits differentiated social behavior. Towards very dominant fellow animals, she reacts strongly submissive and sometimes doesn't dare to leave her house. Conversely, towards insecure dogs, she tends to assert herself more. For these reasons, we are looking for a single-dog household for Sunny, as she values the attention of her humans very much and feels most comfortable in a quiet environment. On the leash, Sunny already walks well and reliably follows her human. The female dog knows cats and currently lives peacefully with them. Sunny has a slight deformation of her head, which does not impair her in any way and likely stems from her history. Additionally, she suffers from a form of German Shepherd Keratitis, a chronic, non-infectious eye condition characterized by progressive clouding of the cornea, which can affect vision if left untreated. However, with regular veterinary eye checks and consistent, usually lifelong treatment in the form of eye drops or ointments, the condition can be well managed, often significantly slowing down or stopping its progression. Naturally, Sunny is not yet familiar with life and the expectations placed on a dog in Germany. Therefore, she will need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to her new environment and learn daily routines. We hope to find a peaceful, rural home for Sunny with patient people who know how to provide a shy dog with safety. Anyone willing to take Sunny gently by the paw and work with her will have a pleasant, loyal companion by their side. Sunny needs people with heart and dog sense who can provide her with support as well as clear and fair guidelines, and who don’t have overly high expectations of her at the beginning. Experience in dog handling, as well as sufficient time and patience for further training, should be present. Sunny currently resides at our partner shelter in Romania and can be adopted neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated against endo- and ectoparasites. Prior to travel arrangements, she will be tested for common Mediterranean diseases using a SNAP test.

DE·Show original

About Sunny

What life with Sunny looks like

Sunny is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope for lost Souls e.V. in Kleinostheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sunny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sunny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for lost Souls e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sunny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sunny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for lost Souls e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sunny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sunny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for lost Souls e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sunny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
