Suzi-1

Female · Young · 2 years

Karma: British Lamb (female) Health status: Food allergy—she’s on a lamb-based diet.Suzi is a very young female dog, likely of boxer type. She’s incredibly endearing, yet also highly anxious and emotionally sensitive. At first, she’s wary of new people, but she quickly warms up to them. When excited, she gets very agitated, which she shows by jumping on people and sometimes grabbing at their sleeves. It’s noticeable that she reacts more intensely to new individuals, so at the beginning, it’s important to respect Suzi’s personal space. However, she’s increasingly able to calm down from high levels of excitement—helped greatly by her favorite cuddle toy, which she holds in her mouth. The initial stages of walks can be chaotic. The world still scares her—street traffic, loud noises, and new objects all cause her stress. Yet gradually, she’s getting used to her surroundings, managing each walk better and better. A big strength of hers is that curiosity always overcomes fear. In calm conditions, without stimuli like street traffic, she walks on a loose leash, often seeking comfort and support from a trusted person. This dog was rescued as a result of an intervention. Before coming to our shelter, she probably never went for walks and spent all her time indoors. This explains her fear of new things and her difficulty with toileting outdoors—her new environment, shelter-related stimuli, and the world in general don’t allow her to comfortably relieve herself during walks. Suzi adapts very well to indoor spaces. As soon as she sees a couch, she immediately curls up on it and falls fast asleep next to her human. Indoors, she also shows her sweet side, climbing onto laps and demanding affection. She usually reacts emotionally to other dogs—barking tensely, though sometimes she just calmly observes them from a safe distance. In direct contact, she tends to be fearful, so if she were to live with another dog, introductions would need to be done carefully. We’re looking for a home for Suzi that:—is stable and provides a sense of security—located in a quieter neighborhood, as far away from busy streets as possible—willing to introduce Suzi to the world slowly, step by step—without children—possibly with another dog (preferably a calm one who wouldn’t excite Suzi).

PL·Show original

About Suzi-1

What life with Suzi-1 looks like

Suzi-1 is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Suzi-1, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Suzi-1?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Suzi-1 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Suzi-1 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Suzi-1 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Suzi-1 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Suzi-1 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
