Syriusz

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Sirius arrived at the shelter in late July 2026, found in the Płochocin area. He is a large, beautiful dog, estimated to be 5-6 years old, with a lovely long coat, moving slowly and with dignity. Upon arrival, his unusual eye appearance immediately caught attention, prompting an urgent ophthalmological consultation. It was found that Sirius is unfortunately completely blind, probably as a result of an injury. During the first walks, we noticed that Sirius is afraid of cars - hearing the sound of a motor, he cowers and retreats as if wanting to escape as far as possible - perhaps he was involved in a car accident in the past? Otherwise, Sirius copes quite well - he walks slowly, exploring his surroundings with his sense of smell and touch, slowly adjusting to his new reality at the shelter. Although he has been with us for a short time, he has already won the hearts of many people who have had the opportunity to care for him. He has proven to be a gentle, teddy bear-like "cuddly" giant, easy to fall in love with from the first moment. We are looking for a home for Sirius that is peaceful, providing a safe space, preferably with caregivers with experience with blind dogs. We invite you to meet our "bear cub"!

PL·Show original

Zapraszamy do poznania naszego "niedźwiadka"!

About Syriusz

What life with Syriusz looks like

Syriusz is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Syriusz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Syriusz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Syriusz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Syriusz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Syriusz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Syriusz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku early rather than rehoming privately; they know Syriusz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
