Szreda

Female · Adult · 5 years

Szreda is a young, small, short-haired terrier. When she arrived here, she would most often lie scared in the pen, curled up in a ball. Fortunately, that's already in the past! Szreda quickly learned to walk on a leash and now gladly goes for walks. She doesn't always feel like long outings, but she walks on a leash very politely. She is a great companion for other dogs and can adapt her temperament to them - with calmer dogs she calmly marches along, with those more crazy she likes to go wild 😉 With people, Szreda is still unsure and needs time to trust, but she is a very gentle terrier. At first, she often steps back from an offered hand, but petting - especially scratching on the back - is starting to give her more and more pleasure! It's hard to see bigger progress in an animal shelter, as contact with humans is very limited. From experience we know that "fearful" dogs in a home become affectionate! Although of course it takes time, patience and a bit of work. Female dog probably never lived in a house, she will probably have to learn urban and home life. We are looking for her a home in a quiet area and patient people who lead a stable life. She could probably live with another pet. YouTube channel with videos:

Szreda jest młodą, niedużą, szorstkowłosą sunią. Kiedy do nas trafiła, najchętniej leżała przerażona w budzie, zwinięta w kulkę. About Szreda

What life with Szreda looks like

Szreda is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient owners and time to build trust with humans. Needs training for house and city life.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Szreda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Szreda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Szreda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Szreda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Szreda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Szreda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Szreda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
