Adopt Tana

Podenco · Female · Senior · 9 years

It is true that we cannot say it is a blessing for the animals at Tana shelter to end up here, but in some cases we are glad they do, as with the case of Tana. If not for that, surely its lifeless body would be wandering somewhere. You see, Tana had the great fortune of bumping into the police one night while wandering in the middle of the road. The state of its body is deplorable, nearly hairless, emaciated, and with skin in poor condition. Seeing it is to feel the suffering and abandonment in our own flesh. Despite everything that has happened, Tana has improved significantly. Now it is in a foster care house where it is much healthier. Still, Tana is an elderly lady who needs the care of a senior dog, as well as all the love and affection she deserves because, despite the human not treating her well, she always has a loving gesture for us, and that's saying something given her lack of energy.

About Tana

What life with Tana looks like

Tana is a medium-sized senior podenco dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Senior dog requiring special senior care, recovering from severe neglect and malnutrition

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
