Tarzan

Male · Adult · 6 years

Tarzan is a young and extremely beautiful, strong dog. Despite this, his life has not gone well. His human kept him on a leash since he was a puppy, then sent him to a kennel run and finally to a shelter cage. From his previous home, we know that despite the hopeless treatment by Tarzan's owner, he loved his owner. Here at the animal shelter, he quickly gathered a circle of fans. He is a distrustful and emotional dog, so in any case, through the bars he informs everyone to go away, unless it's someone he knows - then we have a frenzy of white, fluffy happiness and a presentation of pink paws at the bars. In his feelings towards friendly people, he is extremely loyal - he even remembers volunteers who haven't visited him for 2 months and is even more happy when they come and take a walk together. Here at the animal shelter, Tarzan went for his first walk ever and met other dogs. It was also the first time he entered the water and saw frogs in the pond. Everything was new for him and caused great emotions, which he dealt with by moving forward. Now, walks with Tarzan are much calmer, often full of contemplation over the grass and the traces left by other dogs, although he still loves to run playfully. Other dogs encountered no longer cause great emotions, there is no problem with cars. He has also had walks with dogs he knows from the adjacent boxes, and although it is clear that such contacts are also a new experience and challenge for him, he can behave properly if he has enough space around him. A ritual concluding every walk is also a visit to the run, where sometimes you can meet some nice dogs behind the fence - Tarzan is hungry for contact and tries to use every possible opportunity to improve his dog language. In the afternoons, when you go to his box, Tarzan sticks his head out of the hut, sleepy, with the look of an uncertain child, asking who is coming. Tarzan is a dog that people have cruelly harmed. They took away his childhood and youth, deprived him of experiences of functioning in the world of humans and dogs, and then abandoned him like a broken toy that only barks through the bars. We see in him a harmed child and also see that with calmness and routine, a lot can be achieved, so that this poor child has a chance for a normal life. We are looking for a person who will be able to take care of this demanding dog and find satisfaction in caring for this fluffball, who was already removed from his family at the start of adulthood. He will definitely need to live in a quiet area, where long peaceful walks in the open can be taken, and before going to his new home, his human should get to know him well here at the animal shelter during joint walks. Tu pierwszy raz wszedł do wody i zobaczył żaby w stawie. Tarzan to pies, którego ludzie skrzywdzili okrutnie. About Tarzan

What life with Tarzan looks like

Tarzan is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires quiet rural environment, extensive socialization, and patient experienced handler due to history of neglect and chain confinement

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tarzan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tarzan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tarzan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tarzan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tarzan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tarzan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tarzan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
