Tax

Dachshund · Male · Adult · 4 years

Hi! I'm Tax. A small dog with a very big personality, just like a real teckel should be. Don't let my size fool you, because I know exactly what I want and I'm not afraid to make my voice heard. I'm quite vocal and like to tell you what's going on inside me. I came to DOA because my previous owner unfortunately could no longer take care of me. That was a bit of a adjustment, but I'm ready to find my new place. I'm a full-blooded teckel and can really be a sweet boy. I enjoy attention and playing, especially when there's a ball involved, I get so enthusiastic that you'll definitely hear me! One important thing about me: I have food jitters. That means I take my food very seriously and don't like it if someone is nearby when I'm eating. So that needs to be taken into account. With other dogs, I can also be clear. I like little puppies and enjoy playing with them, but with bigger dogs, I can feel insecure and react angrily. In new situations, I can be a bit anxious, so I really need some time to adjust. That's why I'm looking for an owner who stands firm and can give me clarity and guidance. Someone who lives calmly, so I don't get overstimulated and can adjust at my own pace. A good routine and training are very important for me, and I'll really grow from them. With the right guidance, patience, and understanding, I can be a wonderful, loyal companion with a lovely personality. Are you the one who understands me and wants to work with me?

Hoi!

About Tax

What life with Tax looks like

Tax is a small adult dachshund dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tax, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tax?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tax on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tax if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tax already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tax isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tax and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
