Adopt Teo (HSH)

Mixed Breed · Male

Teo is an imposing and stately herding-shelter dog Rüde. He came into our care as a result of a seizure, having previously lived a life on a short chain. He had few opportunities to learn about his environment or to gather positive experiences. This past has shaped him, and it is a great concern of ours to find him a home that meets his needs and character. Teo is not a dog for beginners or for city life. An ideal setting would be a quiet, rural environment where he can express his natural instincts. A few, dog-experienced trusted people would be optimal to provide him with security and clear structures. At the animal shelter, he has found a veterinary nurse as his primary caregiver. As a herding-shelter dog, Teo has a pronounced protective instinct. He guards his people and his home uncompromisingly. This was originally a desired and valuable trait that, however, must be well controlled. Teo, due to his past as a chained dog, was initially very mistrustful of everyone and everything. At the animal shelter, however, he has made enormous progress. He has learned to trust his primary caregiver. He even walks with the shelter nurse's dogs without any problems – a testament to his ability to be socially compatible under the right conditions. However, strangers should not simply enter Teo's pen. Teo would be happy with a large property that he can guard. During visits, he should always be confined to prevent potential conflicts and misunderstandings.

About Teo (HSH)

What life with Teo (HSH) looks like

Teo (HSH) is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teo (HSH), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teo (HSH)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigsburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teo (HSH) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teo (HSH) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigsburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teo (HSH) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teo (HSH) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigsburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teo (HSH) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
