Tessa

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 1 year

Tessa - young Malinois-Podenco mix is looking for her family. Tessa arrived at the Spanish animal shelter together with her sister Kala. Nothing is known about their background; therefore, we hope even more that the time in the shelter will only be a short episode in their lives. Tessa is a young Malinois-Podenco mix dog. This means that she has an active, intelligent and sensitive dog inside her, who not only wants to be physically but also mentally challenged. At the shelter, the beautiful one shows herself as friendly and very energetic, meeting expectations. She loves activities and exploration trips, is eager to learn and shows - just like a Malinois - a high willingness to cooperate with her caretakers. Therefore, people are needed who know what they are getting into with a dog like Tessa. People who offer clear structures, give her support and enjoy growing together with her. Much movement, joint training and a close bond between human and dog are essential for Tessa's happiness and a balanced dog life. Because we don't know what Tessa's past looked like, potential adopters should be prepared that there is still a lot to learn. Probably, Tessa starts from scratch with basic dog training - from potty training to leash walking to being alone. And certainly, she will, like any puppy, try to find out how far she can go. Tessa wishes for people who show her the world, accompany her patiently, and give her time to adjust to her new environment. We are sure: whoever is ready to walk this path with her will find in Tessa a loyal, smart and cheerful companion who fills her family's life with joy every day. Here are Tessa's videos: Video 1 Video 2 If you are aware of what comes with adopting a rescue dog and you have fallen in love with her, please contact the responsible adoption officer of SALVA Hundehilfe. We would also be very grateful for the provision of a foster home!

About Tessa

What life with Tessa looks like

Tessa is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tessa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tessa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tessa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tessa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tessa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tessa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tessa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
