Tessa

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

This isn't quite so cozy for the sweet Tessa: out of her current enclosure (her temporary familiar environment) and into a photoshoot with several people in a different enclosure. The dogs in the adjacent enclosure give her the necessary support. But she handles "her appointment" quite nicely. If she only knew how important the photos and videos are! It's the first step to becoming known and hopefully finding her new people very soon. So, the first step is taken: beautiful photos of Tessa's pretty face (with the fine line around her eyes), her shiny, still somewhat anxious but attentive brown eyes, her cute spotted little legs, ... a puppy to be loved. It also becomes clear that she is definitely lovable and willful: the leash is foreign to her and she doesn't like it at all. With time, love, and patience without pressure and a reward ("I can go out and sniff with the leash!"), this will change. But first, we need to find the people with whom Tessa can practice and learn to have fun and experience "adventures" with the leash (perhaps without the leash later). Like so often with dogs from shelters, nothing is known about Tessa's past. She lives in a giant animal shelter in an enclosure with concrete floor and walls without a retreat or a real sleeping place, exposed to the constant, ear-splitting noise of many other dogs. How wonderful it would be to have a warm, own puppy bed, peace, and loving people to take care of her? Walks in nature, grass under her paws, feeling the sun, and cuddling with her people—Tessa probably hasn't experienced any of this, but would (quickly?) learn to enjoy it. Tessa needs her chance in her young life to have a dog-friendly life in a loving, constant, and familiar environment. Tessa's new primary caregiver(s) will need love, patience, and a bit of consistency to create a beautiful, comfortable life together. It will be very enriching to give Tessa a home, and she will adapt (with some time) to her new life wonderfully. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V. This animal was abandoned.

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Tessa

What life with Tessa looks like

Tessa is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tessa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tessa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tessa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tessa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tessa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tessa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tessa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
