Adopt Thomas

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 13 years

Hello, I would like to introduce myself here. My name is Thomas and actually I am a lucky dog, even though my life so far has not been very optimal. There were these little creatures, which people call mites, that almost got me. It was terrible. My whole body itched so much and I had to scratch myself constantly. That didn't make things any better, quite the opposite. I scratched my skin off and ended up with bad wounds that became infected. My fur fell out. To make matters worse, other little creatures also contributed, which damaged my immune system. I have leishmaniasis. Why am I a lucky dog? Because kind people near the animal shelter found me in this awful condition and took care of me despite my state. I can't even remember how I ended up on the mountain. But now things are going great for me. My fur has grown back and is beautiful. I love zooming around and playing with my fellow animals. I also like the two-legged beings and enjoy being petted so much. The people here say I am a friendly and confident dog. And now I'm looking for my own family. I love going for long walks and I already handle the leash pretty well. Sniffing around is the best mental stimulation. I would like people who are often outdoors and can physically and mentally challenge me. After that, there should also be time for nice cuddle sessions. Children can be a bit older, as the younger ones are too lively for me. Otherwise, I wish for the standard program with a cozy dog bed, a full bowl, lots of treats and a lot of love. Isn't that not too much to ask, is it? If you are the person I can make happy, then please get in touch with me quickly. I am now waiting for my new life full of adventures. Thomas, a nice, handsome dog, who is very friendly, confident and nice. Thomas has been with us at the animal shelter for a long time. For a long time he has lived with his friends in the open. Thomas would prefer a home without small children. Another dog would be indifferent to him. However, he could still learn a lot from a confident only dog. Thomas would also be suitable for the city once he gets used to walking on a leash. Due to his calm nature, he would also fit very well with an older couple.

Thomas´ neues Video

About Thomas

What life with Thomas looks like

Thomas is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Thomas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Thomas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Thomas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Thomas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Thomas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Thomas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Thomas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
