Thor

Belgian Malinois · Male · Senior · 13 years

Thor's story began at a shelter in Salamanca. An adoption was planned in Manresa, and it seemed he was finally going to start a new life. But when he arrived at his destination, they decided they didn't want him. He was "too old." And so, after the long journey, Thor was left homeless again. What's remarkable is that Thor doesn't seem to hold grudges against anyone. He's an extremely good, patient, calm dog who seems to have understood life much better than many humans. He follows you around, always close, always respectful. A polite and affectionate older gentleman who seems delighted to keep you company. Until the brush appears. Then Thor suddenly remembers he has important business to attend to under a table. He doesn't run. He doesn't protest. He doesn't even make a scene. He simply retreats, with all the dignity possible and trying not to draw attention to himself. After a while, he peeks out. Shall we continue with the brush? Yes. Then he turns around and heads back to his hiding spot. We don't know if this war comes from a rough brush in the past, if his hips are starting to bother him, or if Thor has simply decided that at this point in life he has the right to wear a hippie beard and a few dreadlocks. And perhaps that sums up who he is. An older dog who has been through too much, but still retains his quirks, his tenderness, his dignity, and those small things that can make you smile when you meet him. He's now safe and surrounded by love. His years are starting to weigh: he's losing some hearing and his hips may need more help. But he still wants to accompany you, to receive a caress, and to be part of someone's life. We still think Thor deserves something more. A real home for his last years. Thor is up for adoption, but we're not looking for just any house. We're looking for a family that understands that adopting an older dog isn't too late in his life. It's just in time to make his last chapter the best. And if that family appears, they'll have to be up to the task. Because Thor was rejected once before for being "too old." Now he's too loved.

ES·Show original

No corre. No protesta.

About Thor

What life with Thor looks like

Thor is a senior belgian malinois dog waiting at Asociación Defensa Équidos (ADE) in Spain.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Thor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Thor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Asociación Defensa Équidos (ADE) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Thor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Thor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Asociación Defensa Équidos (ADE) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Thor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Thor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Asociación Defensa Équidos (ADE) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Thor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
