Adopt Thor

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

Thor is a beautiful and people-friendly Malinois who has been at the State animal shelter Bukarest since April 5, 2025. The most striking thing about Thor is his great need for attachment. Thor has not lost his trust, despite the place where he now has to live. I suggest that you watch the video at this point before you continue reading. It is already touching, almost poignant, to see how much Thor seeks human proximity. Malinois are extremely eager to learn dogs who simply want to please. They are happiest when given tasks, search games, and plenty of exercise. Due to their outstanding intelligence and quick learning ability, and their particularly fine noses, they are often used as customs or detection dogs. Their people can count on absolute loyalty. But there are many examples that Malinois are also wonderful family dogs. Always open and good-natured, they are suitable for any activity. Whether varied walks, long hikes, or dog sports, a Malinois shines by your side. And if you allow it, he will happily curl up on the couch at night, snuggle closely, rest his head in your lap, and sigh gratefully. So, that's the kind of dog Thor is. We can't tell you much about his history. Dogs that end up in this animal shelter are often abandoned or at best given up. Despite how much we love and cuddle Thor, he has had enough of other dogs, and we can't blame him. We would therefore like to place him as a single dog. Thor is used to a collar and harness and already does well on a leash. We are looking for people who can give this wonderful dog a loving but leadership-focused relationship, who are friendly, calm, and guiding, and above all reserve a permanent and stable place in their life for Thor.

About Thor

What life with Thor looks like

Thor is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Thor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Thor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Thor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Thor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Thor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Thor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Thor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
